GE washer/dryer combo not drying: what it means and what to check
A GE Profile UltraFast combo can finish the dry cycle with clothes that feel cool, humid, or still wet. This page explains what’s normal for a ventless heat-pump combo, what you can check at the machine, and what a technician tests when drying keeps getting worse.

A GE washer/dryer combo not drying usually means the ventless heat-pump dry cycle can’t remove moisture, or the final spin left too much water in the load. The most common cause is lint restricting the filter, internal air path, heat exchanger, or heat-pump drain path.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Shake out the load before judging it
This combo dries at lower temperatures inside a sealed drum, so clothes may feel slightly humid at the end. Pull a few items out and shake them; GE says they may feel dry within seconds.
- Use More Dry and stop opening the door
If the load is close to dry, select More Dry to add time. Opening the door during drying can make the machine restart its drying process, which GE says can add 5 to 10 minutes each time.
- Look for a spin problem
If the SPIN light blinked, the load may have gone out of balance and the washer may have slowed the final spin to 410 rpm. Redistribute the load and run Rinse & Spin so more water is pulled out before drying.
- Clean the lint filter and door area
Clean every accessible lint filter after each load. Wipe lint and hair from the door opening, the gasket area, and the small drain holes near the lower door seal if your model has them.
- Check and clean the pump filter
If the display says to check the drain pump filter, follow the owner’s manual before running another dry cycle. Even without that message, a clogged pump filter can leave extra water in the drum, which makes the dry cycle look weak.
- Check the drain hose setup
Make sure the drain hose isn’t kinked or pinched. GE lists the standpipe height as 24 to 96 inches from the floor, with the hose inserted no more than 7 inches and an air gap around it.
Conditions that make this more likely
Lint and dust build up faster than you'd think
Dryer vents, refrigerator condenser coils and dishwasher filters collect lint, pet hair and dust. Homes with pets, long vent runs or dusty surroundings usually need these cleaned more than once a year.
The house drain can be the real problem
Older homes often have narrow or partly blocked standpipes and drain lines. If the machine's own filter and hose are clear, the house drain is the next suspect, and that's a plumbing call rather than an appliance call.
What a technician tests
Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

Will a reset fix a GE washer/dryer combo not drying?
A reset may clear a control glitch, so you can unplug the unit or turn off the breaker for a few minutes. If drying was getting worse load by load, expect lint, drainage, or sensing trouble rather than a simple reset issue.
Does the GE Profile washer/dryer combo have a dryer vent?
No. The UltraFast combo uses a ventless heat-pump system that recirculates air inside the machine, so there’s no outside dryer duct to clean. Lint can still build up inside the internal air path.
Why do clothes feel damp at the end but dry after I shake them?
That can be normal on this style of combo because the drum stays sealed and the load won’t feel hot like a regular dryer load. If the clothes are wet, heavy, or take extra cycles, start with spin, filter, and drain checks.
Can I clean the internal heat exchanger myself?
Routine filter and pump-filter cleaning are homeowner tasks if you follow the manual. Internal heat-exchanger cleaning requires teardown around wiring, water lines, sensors, refrigerant tubing, and soft aluminum fins, so a technician should handle it.
Is this covered by warranty?
Check the purchase date, model tag, and your GE warranty terms. If it’s still within coverage, document the symptoms, any filter messages, and whether the SPIN light blinked before you request service.
