GE dryer error codes: common meanings by model

Use this table as a model specific starting point for GE dryer faults, since similar looking E codes can mean different things on different dryer platforms. Unplug the dryer before any safe homeowner check, and leave internal wiring, gas parts and live voltage diagnosis to a technician.

Reading the code

On electronic models, codes appear on the time display or in the service mode fault history; many non display dryers show status lights rather than alphanumeric faults. To reset the controls after the issue is corrected, unplug the dryer for 1 to 2 minutes, plug it back in, then restart; stored fault history may need the model's service mode. Some service modes clear stored history with Start or a Clear Fault Codes test, so use the exact model instructions. LOC or a lock icon is control lock, Clean Filter or Clean Lint Filter is a lint reminder, E00, 000, 00, -- or --- means no stored fault, and 1 or 2 at startup on some 2019 and newer dryers is a setup setting rather than a fault; in consumer fault code mode on some dryers, 1 and 2 can be thermistor faults.

Have the model number ready

The company will ask for it first. It's on a sticker or metal plate, usually in one of these spots:

Where the model tag usually is on a dryer12
  1. Inside the door opening, on the frame
  2. Some models: on the back panel

GE dryer error codes

This list covers several 27 inch GTD, GTX, GFD and older Profile dryer formats, the 24 inch GFD14 format and the Profile UltraFast combo alerts that affect drying. Some newer GFD and GTD dryers use one or two digit service fault codes, so match the code to the exact model manual.

353On Profile UltraFast combo models, the dryer section detected a lint filter restriction, often from fabric softener residue. Full guide →Unplug the appliance, remove the lint filter, rinse the foam filter, clean the mesh screen with water and a soft bristled brush, let them dry, reinstall them and run a wash and dry cycle.Often a home check
001 / F01On 001 style and F style dryer controls, the inlet air temperature sensor is reading shorted.Needs a technician because checking the inlet thermistor circuit requires access inside the cabinet.Usually a technician

005 / F05The control detected an EEPROM or control memory fault.Needs a technician because this points to stored control memory or the main control board.Usually a technician
006 / F06A control panel button has stayed active too long.Unplug the dryer, wipe the control panel dry, press each button once, then restore power and try again.Often a home check
007 / F07The dryer detected an incorrect power connection, commonly L2 and neutral miswired or voltage too high.Needs a technician because correcting line voltage or terminal wiring is not a homeowner check.Usually a technician
008 / 00D / F08The door latch, door switch or door signal has not shown an open door after several cycles.Unplug the dryer, open and close the door firmly, remove clothing caught at the opening, then try again.Often a home check
009The control did not see the drum motor circuit change as expected after the motor relay switched on or off.Needs a technician because motor switch and drive circuit checks require internal access.Usually a technician
F09On some F style controls, the dryer reached maximum cycle time and logged a long dry time fault.Unplug the dryer, clean the lint filter and check that the outside exhaust hood opens freely, then try a smaller load.Often a home check
F010On some F style controls, the dryer detected an empty drum during a sensor cycle.Unplug the dryer, then restart with a damp load or choose a timed cycle if the load is already dry.Often a home check
F011On some F style controls, the dryer detected a dry load during a sensor cycle.Unplug the dryer, then restart with a damp load or choose a timed cycle if the load is already dry.Often a home check
E01On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the inlet thermistor reading stayed at the short threshold.Needs a technician because the GFD14 inlet thermistor and its wiring are inside the cabinet.Usually a technician
E02On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the outlet thermistor reading stayed at the short threshold.Needs a technician because the GFD14 outlet thermistor and its wiring are inside the cabinet.Usually a technician
E03On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the inlet thermistor reading stayed at the open threshold.Needs a technician because the GFD14 inlet thermistor and its wiring are inside the cabinet.Usually a technician
E04On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the outlet thermistor reading stayed at the open threshold.Needs a technician because the GFD14 outlet thermistor and its wiring are inside the cabinet.Usually a technician
E05On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the control detected an EEPROM CRC fault.Needs a technician because this points to the user interface board or stored control memory.Usually a technician
E06On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, a button stayed active long enough to log a stuck button fault.Unplug the dryer, wipe the control panel dry, press Start and Power once, then restore power and try again.Often a home check
E07On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the control detected line and neutral miswired or voltage above the allowed range.Needs a technician because correcting line and neutral wiring is not a homeowner check.Usually a technician
E08On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the door latch signal did not open after several cycles.Unplug the dryer, open and close the door firmly, remove clothing caught at the opening, then try again.Often a home check
E09On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the door signal did not open after several cycles.Unplug the dryer, open and close the door firmly, remove clothing caught at the opening, then try again.Often a home check
E11On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the expected temperature rise did not occur during heating.Needs a technician because heater, supply voltage and board checks involve internal or electrical testing.Usually a technician
E12On 24 inch GFD14 vented dryers, the main board and user interface lost communication multiple times.Needs a technician because board communication and DC supply checks require internal access.Usually a technician
E1 / E101On some older Profile dryers, the interface or power board EEPROM is reading or writing incorrectly.Needs a technician because the interface board, power board and stored control memory must be tested inside the dryer.Usually a technician
E01On some older DBVH, DCVH and DHDVH dryers, E01 means EEPROM failure, not an inlet thermistor fault.Needs a technician because this older Profile format points to control memory or the control board.Usually a technician
E02 / E2On some older Profile dryers, the inlet thermistor is shorted.Needs a technician because checking the inlet thermistor circuit requires internal access.Usually a technician
E03 / E3On some older Profile dryers, the outlet thermistor is shorted.Needs a technician because checking the outlet thermistor circuit requires internal access.Usually a technician
E04 / E4On some older Profile dryers, the inlet thermistor circuit is open.Needs a technician because checking the inlet thermistor circuit requires internal access.Usually a technician
E05 / E5On some older Profile dryers, the outlet thermistor circuit is open.Needs a technician because checking the outlet thermistor circuit requires internal access.Usually a technician

Common questions about appliance repair

How do I reset a GE dryer code?

Unplug the dryer for 1 to 2 minutes, restore power and restart the cycle after any safe cleaning or loading check. If the same fault returns, stop using the dryer until a technician checks it.

Why does my GE dryer show 1 or 2?

On some 2019 and newer models, 1 or 2 at startup can be a setup or personality setting rather than a fault. In consumer fault code mode on some dryers, 1 and 2 can be thermistor faults, so use the exact model instructions before changing it.

Why do some GE E codes have two meanings?

GE reused similar E codes on different dryer platforms. Match the code to the model family before using the meaning in the table.

Should I replace a part based only on the code?

No. A code points to the circuit or condition the control detected, and a technician should confirm failed parts before replacement.

Still showing the problem after the checks?

Call and describe what you tried. You'll be connected with an independent repair company near you.
