LG oven not heating: what it means and how to fix it
Your LG oven may light up at the display, start a bake cycle, then stay cold or stall far below the set temperature. This guide walks through the safe checks first, then explains the parts a technician tests on gas and electric LG ranges.

An LG oven not heating means the bake heat source, ignition circuit, power feed, or control output isn't getting the oven up to set temperature. The single most common cause depends on fuel type: a weak gas igniter on gas LG ranges, or an open bake element on electric LG ranges.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Look for an error code
If the display shows an F code or another fault, write it down before you reset anything. That code can point a technician toward the sensor, relay board, ignition circuit, or other fault.
- Set the oven again and press Start
On LG ranges, a temperature change has to be confirmed with Start. If Start isn't pressed within 25 seconds, the change can be canceled, which makes it look like the oven ignored the setting.
- Check the breaker and power cord
Reset the range breaker fully off, then on. Gas LG ranges need a direct 120 volt outlet on a dedicated 15 to 20 amp circuit, with no extension cord. Electric models need both power legs for heat, so lights and the display can still work when baking power is missing.
- For gas models, check the gas shutoff
If the range was pulled out for cleaning, the home gas valve or the regulator valve on the range may have been turned off. Use the owner's manual for the valve position. If you smell gas, stop and call the gas utility or a repair company.
- Watch the first minute of preheat
On a gas LG oven, the hot surface igniter should glow bright and light the burner in about 30 to 60 seconds. A dull red glow that keeps going without flame usually points to a weak igniter, even though it looks like it's working.
- Keep the door closed and check the sensor area
Opening the door during preheat dumps heat and can make the cycle drag. If the oven heats but runs low, let it cool and wipe grease off the visible temperature sensor probe inside the cavity.
Conditions that make this more likely
Boards fail earlier in hot rooms
Electronics are rated for room temperature. In a garage or an unconditioned laundry room in summer, a control board can sit well above that for hours a day. Before replacing a board, a good technician confirms the parts it controls test good, since a shorted pump or valve can take out a new board too.
Check both breakers
Electric dryers and ranges run on a double 240V breaker. If only one leg trips, the drum can spin or the display can light with no heat. Reset both halves before assuming the appliance has failed.
What a technician tests
Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

Common questions about appliance repair
Can I reset an LG oven that won't heat?
Yes. Turn the breaker fully off for a minute, then turn it back on. If the oven still won't heat, the reset didn't fix the failed part or power issue.
Why does my LG gas oven igniter glow but the oven doesn't heat?
A weak igniter can glow and still fail to pull enough current to open the gas safety valve. The common tell is a dull red glow that lasts longer than about 90 seconds with no burner flame.
Does broil working mean the electric oven is okay?
No. Broil can work while the bake element or bake relay has failed. On many LG electric ranges, the bake element is hidden, so you may need a resistance test to know.
Can self-clean make an LG oven stop heating?
It can. Self-clean uses very high heat, which can stress the thermal fuse and the control board relays. If the oven quit right after self-clean, those parts move up the test list.
Is an LG oven not heating covered by warranty?
Check the purchase date, registration, and LG paperwork for your model. Coverage can vary by age and by part, so have the model and serial number ready before scheduling service.
