Samsung oven not heating: what it means and what to check

Your Samsung oven may start preheating, sit at 150°F, stop around 175°F, or never get warm at all. This guide helps you sort out user settings, power or gas issues, and the parts a technician usually tests next.

Straight answer

This symptom means the control accepted the bake or broil command, but the oven is not getting usable heat from the bake burner or electric element. The most common failed area is the bake heat source, which is the glow-bar igniter on gas ranges or the hidden bake element on electric ranges.

Check these first

Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.

  1. Look for Demo mode on the display

If the display shows tESt, tE 5t, a d, a D icon, or DEMO, the oven is in showroom mode. In that mode the controls work, but the oven will not heat, though a gas cooktop may still ignite. Use the model’s manual to turn Demo mode off.

  2. Make sure the door was not left open

Samsung ovens can shut heating off if the door is open too long. Close the door firmly, cancel the cycle, then start Bake again and wait for preheat without opening the door.

  3. Reset the breaker

Turn the oven or range breaker off for 30 seconds, then turn it back on. A breaker can look set even when one leg has tripped, and electric ranges need the full 240 volts for normal oven heat.

  4. For a gas range, check the cooktop and broil

Light a cooktop burner, then try Bake again. If the oven heats only while a burner is lit, gas pressure needs a pro check; if the burners will not light, check that the gas supply is on. If Broil heats but Bake does not, the bake igniter is the usual suspect.

  5. Run Samsung’s simple preheat check

With the oven empty and at room temperature, leave one rack inside, set Bake to 350°F, and do not open the door. Samsung expects the preheat tone within 20 minutes; if the display sits at 150°F far longer, the oven is not heating.

Worth knowing

Conditions that make this more likely

Check both breakers

Electric dryers and ranges run on a double 240V breaker. If only one leg trips, the drum can spin or the display can light with no heat. Reset both halves before assuming the appliance has failed.

Boards fail earlier in hot rooms

Electronics are rated for room temperature. In a garage or an unconditioned laundry room in summer, a control board can sit well above that for hours a day. Before replacing a board, a good technician confirms the parts it controls test good, since a shorted pump or valve can take out a new board too.

What a technician tests

Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

PartHow it's tested
Gas bake igniterThe tech calls for Bake and watches for a bright glow at the bake burner. If the broil burner works but bake never glows, voltage is checked at the igniter feed; voltage present with no glow points to a failed igniter, while no proper feed points back toward the control or safety circuit.
Hidden bake elementWith power off, one lead is removed and the element is checked for resistance. A normal Samsung bake element reading is 17 to 20 ohms; OL or a reading well outside that range means the element is open or damaged.
Main control boardOn electric models, the tech verifies 240 VAC input from T501 to the black wire at CN101. In Bake, output from T501 to T505 should be 240 VAC; Broil is checked from T501 to T503, and convection heat from T501 to T507 on models that use it.
Oven temperature sensorThe sensor is checked at its connector at room temperature. Around 72°F it should read about 1,080 ohms plus or minus 10 percent, and the resistance should rise as the probe warms.
High-limit thermostat and terminal wiringWith power off, continuity is checked between L1 at the terminal block and the black wire from CN101. No continuity points to an open high-limit thermostat or broken wire; burn marks or loose terminals at the block are a visual fail.

Common questions about appliance repair

Why does my Samsung oven stay at 150°F?

Samsung ovens show 150°F at the start of preheat. If the number stays there for a long time, the oven is not heating enough to move past the starting display.

Will a reset fix a Samsung oven that will not heat up?

A reset can clear a control glitch or a partly tripped breaker. Turn the breaker off for 30 seconds, restore power, then test Bake again. If it still will not heat, a part test is needed.

Why does my Samsung gas oven not heat when the burners work?

The cooktop and oven can have separate ignition parts. If the stovetop lights but Bake will not, a weak or open bake igniter is a common failure.

Is this different on electric Samsung ovens?

Yes. Electric models use bake, broil, and sometimes convection elements, with a hidden bake element at the bottom on many ranges. A technician checks for 240 VAC and element resistance before calling the board bad.

Could this still be under warranty?

It might be, especially on a newer range or a part covered by an extended plan. Check the model and serial number with Samsung or the plan holder before approving a paid repair.

Still showing the problem after the checks?
