Samsung oven not working but stove top is: what to check
The burners may light or heat, yet the oven stays cold, sits at 150°F, or the buttons won't respond. This page walks through the safe checks first, then shows what a technician usually tests inside the range.

When a Samsung oven is not working but the stove top is, the cooktop side still has fuel or power, but the oven heat circuit, safety circuit, or oven control is failing to start bake. The most common cause is a failed oven heat part, usually the hidden bake element on electric ranges or the igniter on gas ranges.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Look for Demo mode
Check the display for tESt, tE 5t, a d or D icon, or DEMO. In Demo mode the oven won't heat, and on gas ranges the cooktop can still ignite, so this one fools people.
- Cycle the breaker
Turn the range breaker fully off for 30 seconds, then turn it back on. A tripped breaker can look normal, and Samsung electric ranges need a full 240V supply for normal oven heat.
- Make sure the door is fully closed
If the door has been open too long, the oven can shut off as a safety step. Some Samsung ovens also stop the fan and heating parts when the door is open or not sealing.
- For a gas range, try the burner test
Light one cooktop burner, then start Bake. If the oven heats only when a burner is on, the gas pressure is likely too high and the installer or gas company should check it; if the oven still stays cold, it needs appliance service.
- Check lock, mode, and divider settings
If the buttons don't respond, look for Child Lock or a locked control icon and use the unlock step in the manual. On Samsung twin or dual-cook ovens, the divider has to match the selected mode, since the wrong setup can stop the selected oven section from heating as expected.
- Run a simple preheat check
With the oven empty and only one rack inside, set Bake to 350°F and wait for the preheat beep without opening the door. Samsung says a range should reach that point within 20 minutes; if it stays cold or never beeps, move on to repair diagnosis.
Conditions that make this more likely
Check both breakers
Electric dryers and ranges run on a double 240V breaker. If only one leg trips, the drum can spin or the display can light with no heat. Reset both halves before assuming the appliance has failed.
Boards fail earlier in hot rooms
Electronics are rated for room temperature. In a garage or an unconditioned laundry room in summer, a control board can sit well above that for hours a day. Before replacing a board, a good technician confirms the parts it controls test good, since a shorted pump or valve can take out a new board too.
What a technician tests
Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

Common questions about appliance repair
Can I reset a Samsung oven that is not working?
Yes. Turn the breaker off for 30 seconds, or unplug the range for 5 to 10 minutes if the plug is reachable. If the oven fails again right away, the reset did not fix the failed part.
Why do the burners work but the oven won't heat?
The cooktop and oven do not use the same heat parts. A gas cooktop can still ignite when the oven igniter is weak, and an electric range can show life even when the oven is missing the power it needs for bake.
Is a Samsung gas oven not working usually the igniter?
Often, yes. If the igniter glows but the oven burner does not light, a technician will treat the igniter as a prime suspect before replacing a control board.
What if the Samsung oven buttons are not working?
Check Child Lock, Demo mode, and try a breaker reset first. If the display is blank or the controls stay dead, a technician should test the thermal cut-out, supply voltage, and user interface board.
Should I use an oven thermometer to decide if the oven works?
For this symptom, no. Samsung points out that portable oven thermometers can lag and read different spots in the cavity, so the better quick check is whether the oven reaches the preheat beep in the expected time.
