LG washer will not spin: what to check first
An LG washer that won't spin may stop at the spin cycle, rock the drum back and forth, show LE, UE, OE, or leave a heavy wet load in the tub. This page walks through the checks you can do at the machine before a repair company is needed.

When an LG washer will not spin, the control is usually stopping spin because it sees an unsafe load, a locked-water condition, or a motor feedback problem. The single most common cause is an unbalanced or overloaded load, especially towels, bedding, jeans, or one large item bunched on one side.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Look for a code before moving anything
UE points to balance, OE points to drain trouble, dE points to the door lock, and LE points toward motor feedback or an overloaded motor. Write the code down before unplugging the washer, since it helps a technician avoid guessing.
- Reduce and spread the load
Pause the cycle, take out some items, then spread the rest around the drum. Towels and blankets fool LG washers a lot because they soak up water, bunch together, then the machine slows or cancels spin to protect itself.
- Check that the washer is steady
Press on diagonal corners of the cabinet. If it rocks, adjust the feet until the washer sits solidly, because an out-of-level machine may keep retrying spin without reaching full speed.
- Clean the front drain pump filter
If your front-load LG has a small lower access door, place towels down, use the little drain tube first, then remove the filter and clear lint, coins, hair, buttons, or fabric scraps. This is a common fix when clothes are soaked and water is still in the drum.
- Check the drain hose you can see
Look behind the washer for a kinked, crushed, or deeply inserted drain hose. If the pump hums but water leaves slowly, the washer may refuse high spin because it still senses water.
- Run a spin-only test
Power the washer on, choose a rinse and spin or spin-only cycle, then select a high spin speed. If the empty drum ramps up smoothly, the last load was the problem; if it only rocks back and forth, clicks off, or throws LE, it's time for part testing.
Conditions that make this more likely
The house drain can be the real problem
Older homes often have narrow or partly blocked standpipes and drain lines. If the machine's own filter and hose are clear, the house drain is the next suspect, and that's a plumbing call rather than an appliance call.
What a technician tests
Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

Can I reset an LG washer that won't spin?
Yes. Unplug it for several minutes, plug it back in, then try a spin-only cycle with the drum empty. A reset can clear a stuck control state, but it won't fix a clogged drain, bad door lock, worn shocks, or a failed sensor.
Why does my LG washer wash but not spin?
The washer may still wash with a weak door lock, slow drain, balance issue, or pressure-sensing fault. Spin has stricter safety checks because the drum speed is much higher.
What does LE mean when the drum won't spin?
LE usually means the control isn't getting the motor movement it expects. Overloading can trigger it, but repeated LE codes often lead a technician to test the Hall sensor, stator, rotor, wiring, and main PCB.
Is this different on front-load and top-load LG washers?
Yes. Front-load models often involve the drain pump filter, door lock, shocks, and direct-drive motor sensors. Top-load models can add lid switch or lid lock checks, plus balance and suspension issues.
Will warranty cover an LG washer that will not spin?
It depends on age, registration, part type, and the failure found. Check the purchase record and LG warranty terms before approving repair work, especially if the washer is fairly new.
