Samsung oven error codes: what each one means

This table covers Samsung ranges, wall ovens and combination wall ovens that use Samsung information codes. Use the code on the display to find the plain meaning and the first safe check before deciding whether to call a repair company.

Reading the code

Samsung oven codes appear on the clock or control display, sometimes as mixed letters and numbers such as C-F2, bAd LinE or tE5t. To clear a code, press OFF, OFF/CLEAR or OVEN OFF if your model has it, then unplug the unit or switch the breaker off for 30 to 60 seconds; no universal button combo is confirmed across all models, so use the model manual for Demo mode steps. Status messages rather than part faults include tESt or tE5t, Cooktop in use, door, the underlined U pan symbol, C-10 during app self diagnosis, and sometimes -dE- or -dC- when the oven divider is not seated.

Have the model number ready

The company will ask for it first. It's on a sticker or metal plate, usually in one of these spots:

Where the model tag usually is on a oven12
  1. Behind the storage drawer, on the frame
  2. Or on the oven frame, visible with the door open

Samsung oven & range error codes

Recent models usually use C codes, while some older range manuals use SE, tE and E codes such as E-27, E-28, E-08, E-0A and E-0E; check the model manual when an E code appears.

23 codes

CodeWhat it meansCheck firstUsually
C-d0 / SEThe control key or touch panel is shorted or stuck, called a shorted key on older models.Turn off power first, then wipe and dry the control area and restart the oven.Often a home check
C-20 / E-27 / E-28The oven temperature sensor circuit is open or shorted; older manuals may split this as open and short codes such as E-21, E-22, E-27 or E-28.Turn the oven off and let it cool, then reset power once; if it returns, a technician should check the sensor circuit.Usually a technician
C-21 / E-0AThe control detected abnormally high oven temperature; older range manuals may use E-0A for overheating, while E-08 varies by model.Turn the oven off, leave the door ajar once safe, and switch off the breaker if the heat will not stop.Usually a technician
C-d1 / E-0EThe oven door lock is mispositioned, misaligned or failed to lock or unlock correctly.Do not force the door; let the oven cool completely, then reset power once.Usually a technician
C-F0 / E-54Communication between the main control board and sub control board was interrupted.Reset power once. If your model lists a software update for C-F0, follow those steps; if the code returns, a technician should check the control electronics.Usually a technician
C-F2 / E-55 / tECommunication between the main control and touch control was interrupted; older manuals may call this a touch PBA signal fault.Unplug or switch off the breaker for 30 to 60 seconds; if the code returns, a technician needs to check the touch control and control boards.Usually a technician
C-24The temperature rose faster than normal, often because the oven vent is blocked or partly blocked.Turn the oven off and remove anything covering the oven vent after the area is cool.Often a home check
bAd LinEThe oven or range detected an improper power connection or power cord installation.Turn off power and have a qualified installer or technician check the power connection.Usually a technician
-dE- / -dC-The divider or partition for split oven use is missing, moved during cooking or not fully seated.Remove and reinstall the divider only when the oven is cool and off, then restart the selected mode.Often a home check
doorThe control thinks the oven door is open or not fully closed.Check that nothing is keeping the door from closing and that the door plunger moves freely with a fingertip.Often a home check
C-31The PCB temperature rose abnormally high.Needs a technician because the control board temperature is abnormally high.Usually a technician
C-A2On some models C-A2 means an abnormal cooling motor; on some electric ranges it means the sub PCB temperature is too high.Turn the oven off, check that the vent is not blocked once cool, and reset power once.Usually a technician
C-30The main PCB sensor is open or shorted while the oven is operating.Needs a technician because the main control board sensor is inside the control area.Usually a technician
C-22The control or sub PCB sensor is open or shorted while the oven is operating.Needs a technician because this sensor is inside the control area.Usually a technician
tESt / tE5tThe oven is in Demo mode, so heating is disabled even though the display works.Exit Demo mode using the steps in the model manual, since the oven and surface may not heat in this mode.Often a home check
C-10During SmartThings self diagnosis, C-10 can appear from sensor limits and may not indicate a defect; during cooking it can point to a sensor problem. If it appears only during app self diagnosis and the oven heats normally, no repair action is needed.Often a home check
C-23The temperature probe sensor is shorted while the oven is operating.Turn the oven off, remove the meat probe if used, make sure the probe plug is dry and reset once.Often a home check
C-70The steam sensor is open or shorted on models with steam features.Unplug or switch off the breaker for 30 to 60 seconds; if it returns, a technician should check the steam sensor circuit.Usually a technician
C-72The oven detected a steam drain system problem on models with steam features.Unplug or switch off the breaker for 30 to 60 seconds; if it returns, a technician should check the steam drain system.Usually a technician
Cooktop in useSelf Clean was requested while the surface was in use, so the oven will not start that cycle.Turn all surface elements or burners off before starting Self Clean.Often a home check
Underlined UOn induction ranges, the underlined U pan symbol means the surface could not detect suitable cookware.Use induction-ready cookware of the right size and center it on the cooking zone.Often a home check
E-08On older electric models, E-08 can mean the oven did not heat as expected rather than an overheat condition.Needs a technician because this older code points to an oven heating error that can involve the sensor, relay or heating circuit.Usually a technician
E-56Older electric models may use E-56 for a control communication or cooktop-related communication fault.Needs a technician because this older code points to an oven control communication fault.Usually a technician

Common questions about appliance repair

How do I reset a Samsung oven error code?

Turn the oven off, then unplug it or switch off the breaker for 30 to 60 seconds. If the code returns after power is restored, stop using the oven until a technician checks it.

Why does the same Samsung oven code keep coming back?

A code that returns after a reset usually means the control detected the same fault again. Do not open panels or test live circuits; have a technician diagnose the part or wiring.

Why does my older Samsung range show SE or E codes instead of C codes?

Recent models usually use C codes, while some older range manuals use SE, tE and E codes. Match the code to the model manual because some older E codes vary by model family.

Are tESt, door, Cooktop in use and C-10 always faults?

Not always. Demo mode, a door message, a surface-in-use message and C-10 during app self diagnosis can be status messages rather than failed parts.

Still showing the problem after the checks?

Call and describe what you tried. You'll be connected with an independent repair company near you.
