Samsung washer dC code: what it means and what to check

Your Samsung washer may stop at spin, refuse to start, or flash dC after it tries to lock the door. This page helps you sort out whether you're looking at a load balance problem, a latch problem, or a worn part that needs testing.

Straight answer

The Samsung washer dC code means the washer either detected an unbalanced load or could not confirm the door or lid was closed and locked, depending on the model. The single most common cause is laundry bunched to one side when the code appears during spin.

Check these first

Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.

  1. Redistribute the load

Press Start/Pause, open the door or lid when it unlocks, then spread heavy items around the basket. Pull out a bulky item if the washer is packed tight, since comforters, towels, and jeans can ball up on one side.

  2. Check the door or lid area

Look for a sock, sleeve, drawstring, or detergent buildup caught where the door seals. On front-load washers, gently pull back the rubber gasket lip and wipe the contact area so the door can latch cleanly.

  3. Reset the washer

Unplug the washer for 1 to 2 minutes, then plug it back in and start a short cycle. This can clear a latch state error, but it won't fix a weak lock, worn suspension rods, or a load that keeps shifting.

  4. Check level and rocking

Push down on opposite corners of the washer. If the cabinet rocks, adjust the leveling legs until it sits solid, then try the spin again.

  5. Look for shipping parts on new installs

Front-load washers must have the rear shipping bolts removed before use. Some top-load washers also have a shipping base that has to come out, or the tub can shake hard enough to set a dC or UE style error.

  6. Drain and clean the front filter if equipped

For front-load models with a lower access door, place towels and a shallow pan down first. Use the small emergency drain tube before unscrewing the pump filter, because water left in the tub can pour out fast.

Worth knowing

Conditions that make this more likely

The house drain can be the real problem

Older homes often have narrow or partly blocked standpipes and drain lines. If the machine's own filter and hose are clear, the house drain is the next suspect, and that's a plumbing call rather than an appliance call.

Boards fail earlier in hot rooms

Electronics are rated for room temperature. In a garage or an unconditioned laundry room in summer, a control board can sit well above that for hours a day. Before replacing a board, a good technician confirms the parts it controls test good, since a shorted pump or valve can take out a new board too.

What a technician tests

Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

PartHow it's tested
Door lock or lid lock assemblyWith power removed, a technician checks the lock switch circuit at the lock plug. On units using the green and white lock switch wires, the circuit should show continuity with the door closed and no continuity with it open; a failed reading points to the lock assembly or its plug.
Suspension rods or tub dampersThe basket is pushed down a few inches, then released with the washer empty. If the tub rebounds more than twice, leans hard to one side, shows grease at a rod, or bangs the cabinet in spin, the support set is worn.
Door gasket, latch strike, or lid catchThe technician checks for a torn boot, packed lint in the fold, a loose strike, or a lid catch that doesn't line up square with the lock. A front-loader can look closed while the strike is just missing the lock slot by a little.
Drain pump and pump filterOn front-load models, the filter is removed after draining through the small hose. Coins, lint mats, hair pins, or a slow-draining tub can leave water weight in the drum, which can make the washer abort spin as if the load is out of balance.
Main control boardThis is checked after the lock, load balance parts, drain path, and wire plugs test good. A bad board may keep showing dC or dE, may fail to see the lock signal, or may need a power pull before the panel responds.

Common questions about appliance repair

Is dC the same as dE on a Samsung washer?

On many Samsung washers, dE points to a door error, while dC can point to either a door error or an unbalanced load. Check when it appears: at the start points toward the lock, during spin points toward load balance.

Will unplugging the washer clear the Samsung washer dC code?

It may clear a temporary lock state. Unplug it for 1 to 2 minutes, then test again with a small, evenly spread load.

Why does the dC code come back only with towels or bedding?

Heavy items hold water and clump to one side of the basket. Wash fewer bulky pieces at a time, spread them around the tub, and avoid mixing one large item with a few small ones.

Can a clogged drain cause a dC code?

Yes, especially on a front-load washer. If water remains in the drum, the extra weight can make spin balance fail, so the pump filter and emergency drain tube are worth checking.

What does 1dC4 mean on a Samsung FlexWash washer?

On FlexWash models, 1dC4 can appear if the small rubber button near the upper washer latch is missing. Replacing that button can correct the latch signal issue.
