UB code Samsung washer: what it means and what to check
Your Samsung washer may stop before high-speed spin, refill to shift the load, or show UB, UE, or UR on the display. This page explains the quick load checks first, then what a technician looks at when the code keeps coming back.

The UB code on a Samsung washer means the machine detected an unbalanced load and stopped the spin cycle to protect itself. The single most common cause is uneven weight in the drum, usually heavy items like towels, jeans, bedding, or one bulky piece bunched to one side.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Redistribute the wet load
Pause the cycle and wait for the lid or door to unlock. Spread the clothes around the basket by hand, then restart spin. A single bath mat, one pillow, or a wad of sheets can be enough to trigger UB.
- Remove some heavy items
If the washer spins after you take out towels, jeans, or bedding, the load was too heavy or uneven for that spin. Wash bulky items in pairs when you can, such as two pillows instead of one.
- Use the right bedding load
Bedding is a common UB trigger because it traps water in one spot. Samsung lists bedding covers at 2.0 kg or less for front-load washers with 800 rpm max spin, and 3.0 kg or less for top-load washers.
- Check the washer’s stance
All four legs should touch the floor with no rocking when you press on opposite corners. Adjust the front legs if needed. Samsung also says not to use a stand or trolley under the washer, and to keep 10 cm from nearby walls.
- Look for a front-load door pinch
On a front-load washer, make sure no sleeve, towel edge, or sheet corner is caught at the door gasket. Laundry trapped there can drag during spin and make the control read the load as unbalanced.
- Match the cycle to the load
Use a cycle made for bulky items when washing bedding or large fabric pieces. If the washer keeps trying to refill and rebalance, stop it, reduce the load, then run spin again.
What a technician tests
Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

Will unplugging the washer reset the UB code?
It may clear the display after the control powers back up. It won't cure the cause if the load is still bunched up, the washer rocks, or the suspension is worn.
Why does my Samsung washer add water again after UB?
Some Samsung washers try to rebalance by adding water and moving the load again. If it keeps looping, stop the cycle and reduce or rearrange the load.
Is UB different on a top-load and front-load Samsung washer?
The meaning is the same: unbalanced load. On an older top-load washer, repeat UB often points to worn suspension rods; on a front-load washer, start with load size, leveling, and anything caught in the door area.
Can I keep using the washer with a UB code?
You can often finish laundry with smaller, balanced loads for a while. Repeated banging is hard on the cabinet, tub, rods, and bearing, so don't ignore it if normal loads now fail.
Is the UB code a warranty issue?
Check the washer’s warranty status with Samsung or your retailer. Load balance and leveling are usually owner checks, while worn suspension parts or a failed bearing need a technician’s diagnosis.
