Whirlpool washer dryer not drying: what to check first
Your Whirlpool washer dryer may finish with clothes warm and damp, or they may come out sopping wet before the dry cycle even has a chance. This guide helps you sort normal ventless dry time from a washer, drain, spin, airflow, or sensor fault.

A Whirlpool washer dryer not drying usually means the load is holding too much water or the dry system can't move moisture out of the drum. The most common cause on Whirlpool all-in-one ventless units is a load that's too large for drying, since wash-and-dry loads need room to tumble and should stay at half a drum or less.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Cut the load size for drying
If you're using an all-in-one Whirlpool washer dryer, the dry load should be about half a drum or less. A full wash load can wash fine, then dry very slowly because the clothes can't tumble through the heated air.
- Use a faster spin before drying
Run Drain & Spin, or choose a high spin speed before the dry cycle. If the clothes come out much drier after that, the dry system may be okay and the washer side isn't removing enough water during the main cycle.
- Check the cycle choice
Delicate, hand wash, bulky, and low-spin cycles can leave more water in the fabric. For towels, jeans, and bedding, use the right fabric cycle with a high spin option if the controls allow it.
- Look for drain trouble
If water is still in the tub, check for a kinked drain hose or a drain hose shoved too far into the standpipe. On models with an owner-access filter door, clean the pump filter only as the manual shows, with towels ready for water.
- Clean the lint screen or lint area
If your setup has a lint screen, wash it with warm soapy water if water beads on the mesh. Dryer sheet film can block air even when the screen looks clean.
- Give a closet install air space
Whirlpool all-in-one units need air space around the cabinet, with door vent openings when installed in a closet. A tight closet traps warm moist air, so dry times climb fast.
Conditions that make this more likely
The house drain can be the real problem
Older homes often have narrow or partly blocked standpipes and drain lines. If the machine's own filter and hose are clear, the house drain is the next suspect, and that's a plumbing call rather than an appliance call.
Lint and dust build up faster than you'd think
Dryer vents, refrigerator condenser coils and dishwasher filters collect lint, pet hair and dust. Homes with pets, long vent runs or dusty surroundings usually need these cleaned more than once a year.
What a technician tests
Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

Can I reset a Whirlpool washer dryer that isn't drying?
You can unplug it for a minute, then start a new Drain & Spin followed by a dry cycle. If the same load dries after the added spin, the issue is more likely spin or drain performance than a reset problem.
Is long dry time normal on a Whirlpool all-in-one washer dryer?
Yes, ventless drying takes longer than a vented dryer. It should still make steady progress, so a half-size load that stays wet for hours needs checks for drain, spin, airflow, heat, or sensor trouble.
Why does the washer drain, then still leave clothes soaked?
Draining and spin speed are separate problems. A weak clutch, belt, load balance problem, or cycle setting can let water pump out while the basket never reaches a strong spin.
Will wet clothes damage my dryer?
Very wet loads are hard on a separate dryer because they are heavy and keep the machine running longer. Run a Drain & Spin first, then move the load to the dryer when it is damp rather than dripping.
Do I need a technician or can I clean something myself?
You can reduce the load, clean the lint screen, check the visible drain hose, and clean an owner-access pump filter if your manual shows one. If panels must come off or electrical tests are needed, use a repair company.
