Reading the code

LG washer codes usually appear as letters or numbers on the control display, and some LCD models also show a short message. Unplug the washer before any check; to clear a fault, unplug for 60 seconds, or for some front load door errors unplug it and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds before restoring power. CL, tCL, Cd and dcL are status or reminder messages rather than washer part failures, and PF can be a power interruption notice.

Have the model number ready

The company will ask for it first. It's on a sticker or metal plate, usually in one of these spots:

Where the model tag usually is on a washer12
  1. Front-load: on the door frame or inside the door rim
  2. Top-load: under the lid at the back, or on the back panel

Common questions about appliance repair

How do I reset an LG washer error code?

Unplug the washer for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart the cycle. On some front load models, you can also unplug it, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds with power disconnected, then restore power.

What if the code keeps coming back?

Stop the cycle, unplug the washer, and close the water faucets if water is entering the tub. If the same code returns after the safe check listed here, contact a repair company or a technician.

Why do some LG washers show E02, E03, E21 or E30 instead of letter codes?

Code format varies by model and control style. Some front load and combo models show E style codes for the same faults that other displays show as IE, OE, dE, FE or PE.

Are CL, tCL, Cd or dcL actual failures?

Usually no. CL is Control Lock, tCL is a Tub Clean reminder, Cd is Cool Down on combo dry cycles, and dcL is an ezDispense nozzle clean function.

Still showing the problem after the checks?

Call and describe what you tried. You'll be connected with an independent repair company near you.
