Maytag dishwasher error codes: what each one means
This list covers Maytag dishwasher fault codes and the matching blink patterns used on many models sold for home kitchens. Use it to match the code on the display or the repeated light pattern to the plain meaning and the first safe check.

Maytag dishwashers may show a digital F and E code, H2O, or a repeating clean light or front panel blink pattern where the first blink group is the F number and the second group is the E number. Before any hands on check that involves moving the machine or removing a cover, disconnect power; for an active leak or fill alert, turn off accessible water first. A control reset is done by removing power for 30 seconds to 1 minute, and some leak alerts such as F8E4 or FAE5 can be cleared with Cancel twice only after the water issue is corrected. A padlock light or a control light that flashes three times when buttons are pressed usually means Control Lock is on, not a fault; hold Control Lock for 3 seconds on models with that key.
The company will ask for it first. It's on a sticker or metal plate, usually in one of these spots:
- Open the door: on the left or right edge of the tub or door
- Some models: on the top edge of the door

How do I reset a Maytag dishwasher error code?
For most codes, disconnect power for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then restore power and start a cycle. For an active leak or fill alert, turn off accessible water first. If the same fault returns, stop using it until a technician checks it.
Why does the same code keep coming back after a reset?
A reset only clears the control. If the dishwasher still has a leak, drain restriction, fill problem, motor fault, or control fault, the code will return.
Are blink patterns the same as F and E codes?
On many no display models, yes. The first blink group is the F number, the second blink group is the E number, so 9 blinks, pause, 1 blink means F9E1.
Do older and newer Maytag dishwasher codes differ?
Yes, exact codes vary by model. Use the model number to confirm the owner manual, especially when comparing a digital code with a blink pattern.
