LG dishwasher won't turn on: what it means and how to fix it
You press Power or Start on your LG dishwasher and get no response, a blinking Start light, or a panel that lights up but won't run. This page walks through the safe checks first, then shows what a technician tests when the problem is inside the machine.

An LG dishwasher that won't turn on usually means the controls are not getting power, or the control is being blocked by Control Lock or a missing door-closed signal. For a dead panel, LG points most often to a power connection problem at the breaker, switch, cord, or junction box.
Check these first
Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.
- Look for Control Lock or a delayed start
If the display shows CL or a lock icon, the buttons may beep without starting a cycle. Hold the model’s Control Lock button combo for 3 to 5 seconds, often Dual Zone plus Half Load or Rinse plus Spray, until the lock icon clears.
- Check house power without opening the dishwasher
Make sure the dishwasher breaker is on. Some kitchens also have a wall switch or under-sink switch for the dishwasher, so check that too. If the unit uses an extension cord or power bar, stop using that setup and have the supply corrected.
- Reset the control
Turn the dishwasher breaker off for about 5 minutes, then turn it back on. On some no-start complaints with flashing Start or timer lights, a reset may clear a stuck control state. If it comes right back, suspect the door latch circuit.
- Close the door with a firm push
The door has to click shut before the board will start a wash. If the door feels loose, rebounds, or the Start light blinks after you press Start, the latch or its small internal switches may not be reporting closed.
- Pick a cycle, then press Start
LG dishwashers won't start a wash until a cycle is selected. Cancel Delay Start if it’s set, then choose a normal wash cycle and press Start.
- Listen for fill after it starts
If the panel works and the cycle begins but no water enters, make sure the water shutoff valve is open and the supply line is not kinked. A stuck inlet valve is a repair part, but a closed valve under the sink is a simple miss.
Conditions that make this more likely
Boards fail earlier in hot rooms
Electronics are rated for room temperature. In a garage or an unconditioned laundry room in summer, a control board can sit well above that for hours a day. Before replacing a board, a good technician confirms the parts it controls test good, since a shorted pump or valve can take out a new board too.
Inlet screens clog quietly
The small mesh screens where the hoses meet the machine catch sediment and scale. On hard water or an older supply line, a screen can block enough within a few years to trigger a fill error. Cleaning them is a common fix.
What a technician tests
Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.
Don't see your symptom?
Describe it on the phone. The company on the other end works on these every day and will know what to ask.

How do I reset an LG dishwasher that won’t start?
Turn the breaker off for about 5 minutes, then turn it back on. If the panel comes back but Start still blinks or the timer flashes, the reset did its job and exposed a likely latch or control fault.
Why does my LG dishwasher show CL and do nothing?
CL means Control Lock is on. Hold the model’s Control Lock button combo for 3 to 5 seconds until the lock icon clears, then select a cycle and press Start.
Why does the Start light blink after I close the door?
That often means the control board is not seeing the door-closed signal. The door may not be latching firmly, or the lock assembly’s small switches may have failed.
What does PF mean on an LG dishwasher?
PF means the dishwasher detected a power failure. After power is restored, press Power, then restart the cycle if the unit does not continue.
Is the main control board usually the cause?
It can be, especially if there are burnt spots or missing control voltages. Technicians usually check the breaker, door lock, noise filter, thermal fuse, and control-panel connections before calling the main PCB bad.
