LG dryer error codes: what each one means

Use this LG dryer error code chart to identify what the control detected and what you can safely check first. Unplug the dryer or turn off its breaker before any check, and stop if the code points to wiring, gas, a sealed system, or an internal part.

Reading the code

LG dryer codes usually appear in the time display, in the app for connected models, or as blinking LED combinations on models without a display; clear many display codes by unplugging the dryer or turning off its breaker for 60 seconds, then holding Start/Pause for 5 seconds while power is off when the manual calls for that reset. CL, Check Filter, Cooling or Drying, and Wrinkle Care are status messages, not faults.

Have the model number ready

The company will ask for it first. It's on a sticker or metal plate, usually in one of these spots:

Where the model tag usually is on a dryer12
  1. Inside the door opening, on the frame
  2. Some models: on the back panel

LG dryer error codes

The list covers LG vented, steam, heat pump, and hybrid condensing dryer families; some models show fewer codes or use LED patterns instead of alphanumeric display codes.

30 codes

CodeWhat it meansCheck firstUsually
d80 / d90 / d95Flow Sense usually means restricted airflow between the dryer and the outside exhaust; some models also show d75 or d85 for this restriction family. On some gas dryers, d80 can also point to no gas supply. Full guide →Unplug the dryer, clean the lint filter, reduce a packed load, and check only the visible exhaust hose and outside hood for kinks or lint. On gas models, if d80 remains after airflow checks, use the gas supply row.Often a home check
tE1 through tE6The control detected a thermistor or temperature sensing problem; tE2 can also appear during steam use when cold air cools the duct too quickly.Unplug the dryer, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds while power is off, restore power, and call a technician if the code returns.Usually a technician
nPThe electric dryer is not detecting heater current and may have a home power supply or wiring problem. Full guide →Make sure the cord is fully plugged in and reset the dryer breaker; if the code stays, have the outlet checked by a qualified electrician.Usually a technician
PSThe dryer detected improper voltage, often related to electric dryer cord installation or the home outlet.Make sure the cord is fully plugged in and reset the breaker; do not inspect the terminal block yourself.Usually a technician
dE / dE4The dryer door is not completely closed or the door switch circuit is not being satisfied.Open and close the door firmly after checking that clothing and the lint filter are not blocking the door opening.Often a home check
PFPower was interrupted during operation or the control detected a power failure event.Unplug the dryer, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds while power is off, then restore power and start a cycle.Often a home check
FO / F0 / Insert FilterThe lint filter is out of position or the filter sensor does not detect it seated correctly.Remove the lint filter, reinstall it fully, and restart the cycle.Often a home check
IFThe dryer is not detecting the two part lint filter assembly correctly.Unplug the dryer and check that both pieces of the lint filter are assembled and seated, with the interior filter magnet in place if your model uses one.Often a home check
HSThe dryer detected a humidity sensor error and may run much longer than expected.Unplug the dryer and wipe the moisture sensor bars below the lint filter with a damp cloth, then let them dry fully.Often a home check
CLChild Lock or Control Lock is active and the control panel is locked, so this is a status message rather than a fault. Full guide →Hold the Child Lock or Control Lock button for 3 to 5 seconds with the dryer powered on.Often a home check
Add / Add WaterA steam cycle needs water in the steam feeder or the drawer is not closed correctly.Pause the cycle, fill the steam feeder with tap water to the max line, close the drawer, and restart the steam cycle.Often a home check
gAS / 9A5The gas dryer is not receiving the gas supply needed to heat.Needs an installer or technician because the dryer reports no gas supply and homeowners should not handle gas lines.Usually a technician
drn / OEA drain condition stopped the dryer because the water container may be full, the drain hose may be restricted, or air may be in the pump.Empty the water container if present and check only the visible drain hose for a kink or pinch.Often a home check
E13The drain hose is kinked, crushed, clogged, or the sump water is frozen on hybrid condensing models. For a hybrid condensing dryer, unplug it and check only the visible drain hose for a kink, crushed section, or clog at the end. If the dryer was exposed to freezing, let it warm up before restarting.Often a home check
E05 / E5The dryer detected a water supply problem for the steam cycle.Unplug the dryer and check that the water tap for the steam water supply is open and the visible inlet hose is not kinked.Often a home check
E1 / E4The steam generating component has a problem on models with a steam function.Unplug the dryer for 60 seconds, reconnect it, and call a technician if the code returns.Usually a technician
LE1The drum is not rotating due to a drum motor or heavy load condition.Unplug the dryer, remove some items if the load is heavy, and try a short cycle after the drum can turn freely by hand without force.Often a home check
LE2 / AE / CE1The compressor system that generates heat for drying has a problem on heat pump models.Unplug the dryer for 60 seconds, reconnect it, and call a technician if the code returns.Usually a technician
LE3The motor that circulates air through the dryer has a problem.Unplug the dryer for 60 seconds, reconnect it, and call a technician if the code returns.Usually a technician
nE / nF / nCThe control has detected a connection problem with the Wi-Fi module, NFC module, or display communication path.Unplug the dryer for 60 seconds, reconnect it, and restart the dryer.Usually a technician
bEThe drum drive belt has a problem and drum rotation is halted.Unplug the dryer and call a technician because this code points to the drum drive belt system.Usually a technician
E00The display board cannot read software from the main control board.Unplug the dryer for 60 seconds and call a technician if the code returns.Usually a technician
E03The float switch detected water in the base of the dryer. If your model has a drain tank, unplug the dryer and empty the tank before restarting.Often a home check
EHEThe heater is drawing too much current and may trip the main fuse or breaker.Unplug the dryer and call a technician because this points to a heater current problem.Usually a technician
F1The cycle system is not generating heat in the heat exchanger.Unplug the dryer for 60 seconds and call a technician if the code returns.Usually a technician
ndThe dryer has a no drain condition, often from a clogged, kinked, or crushed drain path on models that display this code.Unplug the dryer and check only the visible drain hose or water container your model manual identifies for user access.Often a home check
EEThe main control board has a memory or EEPROM fault.Unplug the dryer for 10 minutes and call a technician if the code returns.Usually a technician
Clean Filter / Check FilterThis is a reminder to clean the lint filter before each load, not a fault code.Clean the lint screen before starting the cycle and reinstall it fully.Often a home check
Cooling / Drying lightThis light is normal cycle status for the drying and cooling portions of a cycle.Let the cycle continue unless clothes are still wet after the cycle ends.Often a home check
Wrinkle CareWrinkle Care is active and the drum is tumbling periodically after the cycle to reduce wrinkles.Press Power or open the door if you want to end the option.Often a home check

Common questions about appliance repair

How do I reset an LG dryer error code?

Unplug the dryer or turn off its breaker for 60 seconds. For codes that allow a control reset, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds while power is off, restore power, and try a short cycle.

Why does d80, d90, or d95 keep coming back after I clean the lint filter?

Those codes point to restricted airflow, so the restriction may be in the transition duct, the outside exhaust hood, or the duct inside the wall. Stop using heat until the full vent path is checked.

Are CL, Check Filter, Cooling, and Wrinkle Care error codes?

No. CL means Child Lock or Control Lock is on, Check Filter is a lint screen reminder, Cooling or Drying is cycle status, and Wrinkle Care is an end of cycle option.

Do older LG dryers use different codes?

Some models show Flow Sense bars, d75, F0, or blinking LED patterns, while heat pump and condensing models can add drain, compressor, and filter detection codes. Match the display to the model manual when the code is not on this list.
