Frigidaire F10 oven code: what it means and how to fix it

Your Frigidaire range is beeping, flashing F10, or shutting down during bake or broil. Sometimes the oven really is too hot. Other times the small rear temperature probe is lying to the control, and this page shows what to check safely before a technician tests parts.

What the display shows
Straight answer

The Frigidaire F10 oven code means the control sees a thermal runaway condition, so it thinks the oven is overheating or heating when it should be off. The oven temperature sensor, also called the RTD probe, is the first part a technician usually checks, but wiring or the electronic oven control can also cause it.

Check these first

Safe to do yourself. Unplug the appliance before you start.

  1. Stop the cycle and cut power if it keeps heating

Press Cancel or Clear once. If the beeping continues, the oven keeps heating, or the control won't respond, turn the range breaker off and leave the oven alone until it cools.

  2. Do a power reset

After the oven is cool, disconnect power at the plug or breaker for at least 30 seconds. Five minutes is also fine if the range was very hot. If this was a one-time control glitch, the code may clear here.

  3. Remove foil from the oven floor

When the oven is cool, look for foil on the oven bottom. Foil and liners can block air flow, trap heat, damage the oven floor, and throw off normal baking.

  4. Check the rear sensor area without taking panels off

The sensor is the thin pencil-shaped metal probe on the back wall of the oven cavity, often near the upper rear corner. Make sure a large pan, rack, or baked-on food is not touching it.

  5. Try one short bake test

Restore power only if the oven is cool and didn't start heating by itself. Run Bake at 350°F while you stay nearby. If F10 returns during preheat, press Cancel or Clear. If heat continues or the controls don't respond, turn the breaker off and stop testing.

Electric ovens bake with an element on the floor, hidden under a floor panel on many newer models, and broil with one at the top. The temperature sensor is the thin probe on the upper back wall. Gas ovens light a burner under the floor panel with a glowing igniter.

Have the model number ready

The company will ask for it first. It's on a sticker or metal plate, usually in one of these spots:

Where the model tag usually is on a oven12
  1. Behind the storage drawer, on the frame
  2. Or on the oven frame, visible with the door open

Conditions that make this more likely

Boards fail earlier in hot rooms

Electronics are rated for room temperature. In a garage or an unconditioned laundry room in summer, a control board can sit well above that for hours a day. Before replacing a board, a good technician confirms the parts it controls test good, since a shorted pump or valve can take out a new board too.

What a technician tests

Most likely part first. These are for a technician with a meter and the tech sheet, not a weekend project.

PartHow it's tested
Oven temperature sensor, RTD probeWith power disconnected, the technician unplugs the sensor and checks resistance at room temperature. Many Frigidaire and Electrolux designs read around 1080 ohms at room temperature. An open sensor, a shorted sensor, or a reading far from that range points to a failed probe.
Sensor circuit at the EOCThe technician reads the same RTD circuit at the control connector and compares it with the reading taken at the probe. If the probe tests near spec at the oven wall but reads open or very different at the board, the fault is in the connector or wiring between them.
Electronic oven control, EOC relay boardAfter the sensor circuit checks out, the technician looks for a welded bake or broil relay, scorched spots, or corrosion on the board. A live test may confirm that an element is still being fed when Bake is canceled, which points to a failed control.
Rear sensor connector and heat-spliced leadsThe technician inspects the small connector behind the probe for loose pins, oxidized contacts, or brittle insulation. On ranges where a sensor was spliced before, overheated ceramic wire nuts or loose splices can make the control see the wrong temperature.

Common questions about appliance repair

Can I keep using the oven after an F10 code?

No, stop using it if F10 comes back. Thermal runaway can mean the oven is overheating or that a relay is feeding an element when it shouldn't.

Will resetting the breaker fix a Frigidaire F10 oven code?

A reset can clear a brief control glitch or power surge. If the code returns during one short 350°F bake test, assume there is a part or wiring fault.

Is F10 usually the sensor or the control board?

The temperature sensor is the usual first suspect because it tells the board how hot the oven is. The control board becomes likely when the sensor and wiring test properly, or when an element stays powered with the oven canceled.

Can self-clean trigger F10?

High heat can expose a weak sensor connection or a failing control. Let the oven cool fully before testing once, and stop if F10 returns.

What if the range was installed recently?

If it was installed within the first 30 days, contact the installer or the manufacturer before opening anything. A wiring, setup, or early part issue may need to be documented.
